What does “team spirit” mean at Foodcom? How do we build team spirit?

Is it possible to build a team that really wants to work together, rather than just sitting together in one office? Can you create a place where people support each other, share their experience, and work toward a common goal, not just when someone is watching? For us at Foodcom, this isn’t a question, it’s everyday life.
Team spirit is not a slogan from a recruitment presentation. It is the way we operate, the way we think about each other and about the company. It is everything that happens between tasks, emails, and conversations. It is the atmosphere that makes people want to stay, give more of themselves, and feel satisfied.
But let’s start from the beginning.
Team spirit does not appear out of nowhere and cannot be imposed by procedures or created with a single brief. The real atmosphere in a team comes from culture – a living culture, created every day, often without grand declarations, but with consistency and sincerity.
At Foodcom, it all started with the need to build something different. A company where motivation, commitment, and trust matter. Where no one has to play a role, but can be themselves and work to the best of their ability. Our values were not created in a branding agency, but were born out of life.
We don’t promise unrealistic things, but if you have determination and a desire to grow, you will find space here. That was the founding idea, and we still cherish it today.
In the beginning, we were like wolves, each of us acting quickly, intensely, with ambition. We formed “packs” because even then we believed that strength lies in numbers. Over time, this developed. We acted more and more consciously, more and more as a team. And then a symbol appeared that accompanies us every day—the orca.
Why this symbol? Because orcas are not only intelligent predators, they are social animals. They hunt together, care for each other, and communicate like few other species in nature. They form teams in which everyone has their place, and success depends on cooperation.
This is what inspires us. Today, we refer to ourselves as orcas. Not by accident, but out of conviction.
What does team spirit look like in practice? It’s not just slogans or company accessories with the orca logo, although there are plenty of those. It’s primarily everyday situations that build trust and commitment.
One of our rituals is Beer Fridays, organized every two months on the last Friday. Each one has a different theme, a different energy, but the same goal: to give the team a moment to breathe and integrate, to build relationships not only as a team, but also as people who really know each other.
It is also a matter of a supportive structure. Each of us belongs to a specific “pod” – a team that works together as one. We exchange knowledge, help each other, and do not compete. One person’s success is not another’s failure; on the contrary, we support each other and grow together.
At Foodcom, development is real and does not come at the expense of the atmosphere. For us, promotion is not the result of a power game, but the effect of attitude, commitment, and approach to others.
Many of our current partners started out as juniors, often with no previous experience. What set them apart was their ambition, responsibility, and willingness to take action. These are the people we value, because we know that potential is not always something that can be seen on a resume. Sometimes it is something that can only be seen in action.
Development at Foodcom is about shared experiences that last a long time. One of them is the Workcamp in Tenerife – a trip for the best employees who have shown results, but also team spirit. It is a time for regeneration, inspiration, and building even stronger relationships.
Perhaps because we don’t try to play roles. We don’t create an artificial atmosphere, we let it grow. At Foodcom, no one has to pretend to be anything they’re not. You don’t have to be perfect to be an important member of the team. All you need is to be reliable, committed, and willing to support others.
It’s simple, and that’s why it’s so rare.
If what you are reading sounds familiar, this may be the place for you.
And if you are building your team, remember: team spirit does not start with a procedure. It starts with people!
